Finger and Partial Hand Prosthetic Options
There are three prosthetic options for people with finger and partial hand absence or loss. Choosing the appropriate option depends on several factors, including the shape of your finger/hand and your goals for using a prosthesis. Our philosophy is to offer you a range of possibilities and give you the opportunity to decide what is most appropriate for your lifestyle and needs.
Functional
A functional prosthetic device is designed for people who had an amputation or have an absence of partial fingers, the entire finger, the thumb or a partial hand. The prosthesis is either driven by the remaining residual limb or by positioning the device in the best position for the task required. These devices provide you with additional length and dexterity to increase your functional ability to perform the activities that matter to you. Each device is custom-designed and fabricated to match your unique anatomy.
Lifelike
A lifelike prosthetic device for the absent finger or hand is designed to match your other side’s skin tone, body hair and other natural features. This is a passive device and has no movement, but is often used to stabilise or hold an object. The lifelike prosthesis not only makes a positive difference to your everyday living but its cosmetic appearance assists with rebuilding confidence.
Bionic
A bionic device is usually used for people with a partial hand or multiple finger absence/loss. The device has electrically powered fingers with miniature motors inside each finger to create motion. The amount of strength the electric fingers exert is variable and controlled by you to ensure that appropriate grip strength is applied for any given situation.
